"Turkey Scholarships Postgraduate Programs"The ‘Consortium of Development Studies in Southeast Asia’ (CDSSEA) announces its offer of master’s scholarships for the 2014 academic year to successful applicants from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand wishing to pursue the graduate studies at one of the three leading development studies programs in Thailand, namely the MA in International Development Studies (MAIDS) at Chulalongkorn University, the M.Sc. in Gender and Development Studies (MGDS) at the Asian Institute of Technology and the MA in Social Science (Development Studies) (MASS) at Chiang Mai University.

Study Subjects:

Scholarships are offered for the following programs:

  • The Master of Arts in International Development Studies (MAIDS) at Chulalongkorn University.
  • The Master of Arts in Sustainable Development (MASD) at Chiang Mai University.
  • The Master of Science in Gender and Development Studies (MGDS) at the Asian Institute of Technology.

Eligibility:

To apply, the student must:

  • Be a national of Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam or Thailand;
  • Be a BA graduate in any field of study (but preferably with a social science background) and with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, or with an excellent, general academic record;
  • Possess good English proficiency, with a certificate showing a TOEFL score of over 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based (CBT)) or 79 (internet-based (iBT)), or an IELTS score of 6. Other qualifications accepted by the programs include a CU-TEP (CU test) score of 550, an AIT – EET (AIT test) score of 6 or E-TEGS (CMU test) score of 80;
  • Commit to return to their home country after completion of the program to resume their work;
  • For the MDGS program, lower English proficiency score is acceptable if the applicants prove to have a strong background in the field of gender and development and a commitment in pursuing career in this field;
  • Preferably have 2 to 3 years work experience in the field of development.

Scholarship Open for:

Students of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam (CLMV) and Thailand can apply for these masters scholarships.

Scholarship Duration:

The duration of the scholarship depends upon the length of each program.

Scholarship Value:

A full scholarship will be given to successful candidates, covering tuition fees, a monthly allowance, field research expenses (specifically for programs that require field research), and traveling expenses to and from each student’s home country.

Notification:

Successful CDSSEA applicants will be notified by 31st May 2014.

How to Apply?

Only fully completed application documents will be considered by the CDSSEA Secretariat. To apply for the scholarship, applicants must submit the following:

  • A fully completed copy of the CDSSEA application form.
  • An official transcript and a degree certificate – both in English. Only an original or certified copy of the transcript and a certified copy of the degree certificate will be accepted (translated into English, if not in English or Thai already)
  • A curriculum vitae/resume providing information on present and past employment, academic awards, international travel, publications and extra-curricular activities etc.
  • Two letters of reference (using the CDSSEA Reference Form) written by two referees familiar with the applicant’s work and capabilities. Referees should fill out the reference form provided by the applicant and return it in a sealed envelope with their original signature added. References should then be sent to the CDSSEA Secretariat along with the application form.
  • A TOEFL or IELTS certificate – or an equivalent accepted by the programs. Certificates must be valid during the application period.
  • A statement of purpose of about 800 to 1500 words describing the reasons for the applicant wishing to pursue his or her graduate studies in the area of development studies, plus his / her research interest, career expectations and how completing the program in development studies will help achieve the applicant’s goals.
