50th Anniversary Research Scholarships at University of Kent in UK

In preparation for the University’s 50th anniversary in 2015, Kent has established an additional 100 doctoral scholarships to be awarded annually from 2012. Known as Kent’s 50th Anniversary Scholars, successful candidates will demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding research potential. Scholarships will be offered at the standard UK Research Councils’ rate and administered under the Graduate Teaching Assistant Scheme.

Scholarships are awarded to study any of the courses which are offered by the University of Kent in UK. These Scholarships are obtainable for studying research program at the University of Kent in UK.

Eligibility:

  • Candidates must hold a good Honours degree (First or 2i) or a Master’s degree at merit or distinction in a relevant subject or equivalent.
  • The scholarship competition is open to all new postgraduate research applicants.
  • Current Kent research students are not eligible for this scholarship.
  • UK, EU and overseas fee paying students are invited to apply. Please note that overseas students must have the appropriate documentation to evidence eligibility to work in the UK.

Scholarship Value:

Some academic schools offer scholarships in the form of Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) whereby postgraduate research students receive financial support in return for teaching. Students engaged as Graduate Teaching Assistants hold a unique position in the University; they are both registered students in receipt of a scholarship and employees of the University. As such they hold two mutually dependent agreements with the University of Kent and are required to abide by the terms and conditions of both agreements, as well as having the opportunity to enjoy the privileges afforded them in each scheme. GTAs are awards which offer a combined salary and maintenance grant. The amount of the GTA depends on the terms and conditions of the agreement. All GTAs offer a gross salary of £3,387.84 per annum (2013-14 rate). The Scholarship element of the GTA may vary from a few hundred pounds up to a combined salary and maintenance grant equalling the full UK Research Council rate of £13,726 (2013-14 rate) plus tuition fees at the home/EU rate.
