Teesside University is offering students that meet relevant eligibility criteria the opportunity to apply for a scholarship for certain postgraduate courses in 2014-15. The government-backed Postgraduate Experience Project (PEP) researches attitudes surrounding postgraduate study among UK citizens. Recipients of the scholarships are required to participate in a small number of research activities with PEP, such as questionnaires and a telephone interview. There are three types of scholarships available for those studying full-time and two for those choosing the part-time mode of study for the courses listed.
Eligibility:
You must:
- Be a British Citizen
- Be a resident of the United Kingdom
- Be a local resident or work locally
- Meet the course entry requirements
Course entry requirements:
The scholarships are only available to students enrolling on one of the following STEM courses:
MSc Computing:
Applicants are normally expected to have one of the following:
- BSc (Hons) degree, first or second class, in a computing subject with good programming and software design skills; or
- equivalent qualifications, for example applicants with appropriate professional experience.
- In addition, international students will require IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.
MSc Civil Engineering:
- Applicants should normally have an honours degree (preferably at least 2.1) in civil engineering or another equivalent qualification.
MSc Forensic Science:
- Applicants should normally have a BSc honours degree (at least 2.2) in an appropriate related discipline, or professional membership of an appropriate chartered institution or an equivalent relevant qualification. Typical subjects would include biology, chemistry, biomedical science, biochemistry and forensic science.
MSc Mechanical Engineering:
- Successful applicants normally hold an UK honours degree (minimum 2.2) in mechanical engineering or another related discipline, or an equivalent international qualification.
MSc Petroleum Engineering:
Applicants should normally have an honours degree (at least 2.2) in an appropriate related discipline – petroleum engineering, geological qualifications, civil engineering qualification, mechanical engineering, geophysics, chemical engineering, petrophysics, physics, mathematics or chemistry.
MSc Project Management:
- Minimum entry requirements are a degree at a level equivalent to at least a UK bachelors 2.2 honours degree in an appropriate discipline. Acceptable disciplines include applied science, technology, engineering or mathematics. We also welcome applications from individuals with at least three years of relevant experience or professional membership of an appropriate chartered institution.
- International students should have English skills equivalent to at least IELTS 6.0 with no component below 5.5.
MSc Sport and Exercise:
- Applicants should normally have a good honours degree in an appropriate subject, or a degree plus experience, or additional acceptable qualifications. Applicants with extensive relevant experience in an appropriate field and evidence of an academic contribution to that field will also be considered.
Scholarship Open for:
Residents of UK (British Citizen) can apply for these MSc scholarships.
Number of Scholarships:
Up to 25 MSc scholarships will be available for those studying full-time and up to 15 MSc scholarships will be available for those choosing the part-time mode of study.
Scholarship Duration:
Full-time scholarships will be awarded for a period of one year. Part-time scholarships will be awarded for a period of two years.
Scholarship Value:
Full time mode
- Full course fees paid for a 1 year MSc = 8 available
- 60% of the course fees paid for a 1 year MSc = 7 available
- £1000 discount from the course fees for a 1 year MSc = 10 available
Part-time mode
- Full course fees paid for a 2 year MSc = 7 available
- 60% of the course fees paid for a 2 year MSc = 8 available
- You may also be entitled to an additional 10% off your course fees for the year if you are allocated the 60% or £1000 scholarship.
Selection Criteria:
The scholarships will be randomly allocated for fairness and the process will meet the ethical requirements of the Project ensuring that all applicants have an equal chance of being awarded a scholarship.
Notification:
The university aims to complete the process and confirm awards via email by 1st September 2014. Unsuccessful applicants will be informed via email by 5st September 2014.

Applications should be submitted via email to registry-at-tees.ac.uk. You only need to submit one application form as the type of scholarship will be randomly selected, but you need to ensure that you clearly state whether you are applying for the full-time or part-time mode of study.
