The focus of this project is on the mathematical analysis of problems related to statistical mechanics and multi-scale modelling. The specific details of this project are negotiable between the supervisor and student any may cover areas such as mathematical problems of phase transitions and pattern formation, statistical mechanics for non-equilibrium systems, and analytical and computational methods of coarse-graining for interacting particle systems. Research may extend to related topics within the scope of statistical mechanics and multi-scale modelling.
Study Subject: statistical mechanics and multi-scale modelling.
Study Level: Postgraduate Research
Eligibility:
Due to funding limitations, this project provides a fee waiver for UK and other EU students only.
Applicants must hold, or expect to hold, a UK Bachelor degree in Mathematics with first class Honours. Alternatively, a UK second-class Bachelor degree plus a UK Masters degree in Mathematics or a closely-related subject, at Merit classification. EU equivalent qualifications are accepted.
