Established from a generous donation from prominent alumnus, David Anstice, the scholarship titled ‘The Anstice MBA Scholarship’ is offering support to emerging business leaders from the Not for Profit sector, including charities and NGO’s operating in Australia or internationally.
Purpose of the Scholarship
The scholarship is dedicated to the MBA program. The intention of this scholarship is to assist emerging leaders in community organizations acquire world class business and management skills.
Scholarship Value and Tenure
The scholarship valued at $30,000 will be paid in three annual installments of $10,000. The recipient must maintain a minimum enrollment load of two units of study each semester. Payment will be made directly to the recipient pending academic progression.
Eligibility
The scholarship is open to local students who successfully gain entry into the MBA and who will maintain a continuous enrollment for the degree duration. Applicants will be subject to the same admission requirements for the MBA. See Selection criteria.
To be eligible for the award you must have applied for and been accepted into the University of Sydney MBA. There is no separate application process.
The initial selection criterion reflects that of the MBA, as follows:
- A Bachelors degree (credit average); or graduate certificate, graduate diploma or equivalent at an institution approved by the Business School and graded at a standard acceptable to the Business School (with originals to be submitted at interview), with:
- at least 3 years work experience and experience in a management position;
- a Statement of Motivation; a one page statement outlining what the applicant hopes to achieve professionally and personally by completing The University of Sydney MBA;
- a selection interview establishing the candidates suitability for the degree.
In exceptional circumstances, the School may admit an applicant without these qualifications if, in the opinion of the School, the applicant has qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award.
Selection Criteria:
Preference will be given to those applicants currently working in the Not for Profit sector, especially charities.
Criteria used in the selection include academic merit, career achievements and evidence of on going commitment to the sector.
Ideally, successful applicants will be able to demonstrate one of more of the following attributes:
- experience in working with a multi-disciplinary team;
- collaboration with For Profit or Government organizations and an ability to network;
- their development of an initiative which has been adopted by their organization and has proven sustainable;
- leadership, having coordinated a team in a project or business strategy to a successful outcome;
- personal achievements which have been recognized in the community.
Acceptance and Progression
The scholarship must be taken up in the semester in which it is offered. The scholarship holder may not defer or suspend their enrollment in the degree.
The scholarship holder must maintain a continuous enrollment, no leave of absence is allowed, except under exceptional circumstances such as a medical condition which limits the student’s capacity to undertake study. Such requests must be supported by the MBA Director.
In the event that the scholarship holder changes degree or discontinues study, the scholarship is no longer tenable.
The award is conditional on the scholar meeting all regulations of the coursework program. To retain the scholarship, the holder must also achieve a 75% Distinction Grade average in each year of enrollment.
The scholarship may not be held concurrently with another University scholarship. The scholarship holder will have an opportunity to promote the MBA program in which they are enrolled and represent the Business School at student orientation, marketing events and corporate networking events.
