The UTS International Research Scholarship (UTS IRS) is provided by the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) as part of its long term commitment to internationalization with a particular view to enhancing its international links and profile in research. It is aimed at attracting high quality international students to work in areas of research strength. Each year, UTS offers up to 60 IRS to eligible candidates who demonstrate exceptional research potential. The UTS IRS only covers the tuition fees for a period of two years for a Research Masters degree or three years for a Research Doctorate degree. The UTS IRS Scholarship is not transferable to another institution.

Study Subjects and Level:

Scholarships are provided for undertaking study in a subject area identified by the University as one of its areas of research concentration. The Scholarships are obtainable for studying Masters by Research and Doctoral programs at University of Technology, Sydney (UTS).

Eligibility:

To be eligible for an IRS, a student must:

  • be an overseas student as defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003 (Cth); and
  • purchase and maintain a standard OSHC policy approved by the Commonwealth Government Department of Health and Ageing (DOHA); and
  • be undertaking a higher degree by research (HDR) at the University in the year of the IRS (IRS scholarships are not available to applicants whose enrolment into a postgraduate research program has not been accepted by the University)
  • be commencing full time enrolment for the first time in a higher degree by research (HDR) at the University.

The Unviersity may also consider students who:

  • commenced their HDR in the previous year but who, due to the timing of their application and subsequent enrolment, were unable to apply for the scholarship in that year; or
  • commenced a HDR and terminated that enrolment within six months of commencement; and
  • be undertaking study in a subject area identified by the University as one of its areas of research concentration; and
  • not have completed a degree at the same or higher level as the proposed candidature; and
  • not be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition is a component under any other scholarship scheme.

Scholarship Open for:

International students can apply for the UTS IRS.

Number of Scholarships:

UTS offers up to 60 IRS to eligible candidates who demonstrate exceptional research potential.

Scholarship Duration:

Scholarships are provided for two years for a Research Masters degree or three years for a Research Doctorate degree.

Scholarship Value:

The UTS IRS only covers the tuition fees. The UTS IRS Scholarship is not transferable to another institution.

  • For prospective students:

To apply, please submit the UTS International Higher Degree Research Application Form (pdf, 1007kb) for both the degree and scholarship(s) through UTS: International by the advertised deadline.   • For currently enrolled research students:

To apply, please submit the completed HDR scholarship application form for current students (pdf, 506kb) with a CV by the advertised deadline. For further enquiries, please contact the Scholarships Coordinator bianca.azar@uts.edu.au.
